Pride of Birmingham Awards 2017

Pride of Birmingham 2017 | VIP Chauffeur service
Inspired – adjective – [in-spahyuh rd]: aroused, animated, or imbued with the spirit to do something, by or as if by supernatural or divine influence

Annually, we’ve been fortunate enough to supply our VIP chauffeur service for numerous celebrities and remarkable people to one of Birmingham”s prestigious highest profile events – The Pride of Birmingham Awards.

The increasingly popular evening, supported by MP”s, television celebrities and actors alike, awards exceptional acts of selflessness and bravery.

Blind Dave Heeley | Pride of Birmingham Awards 2017Outstanding “ordinary” people often excelling in extraordinary circumstances displaying a responsibility above and beyond the norm. For example: “Blind Dave Heeley” won Fundraiser of the Year Award. An extremely fit young man, Dave from West Bromwich was born with incurable Retinitis Pigmentosa and was told, aged 10, he was going blind. In 2008 he ran a seven-marathon “round the world” challenge from the Falklands, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Sydney, Dubais, Tunis, finally completing with the London Marathon.

A further challenge was 10 marathons in 10 days, from John O” Groats to Lands End, whilst cycling in between stages!

His fundraising and global running has covered the equivalent of 8,000 miles PLUS two laps of the earth! A spritely 60 years of age this year, Dave intends to run 25 races organised by the Great Run Company – two marathons, six half-marathons, two ten-mile events, ten 10ks, one five-mile race and four 5ks more than 230 miles, from Edinburgh to Ethiopia.

Pop the kettle on and take some time to read some more of the amazing stories on the Birmingham Mail website and Instagram.

The event, hosted by Katie Piper featured celebrities including MOBO award-winning Handsworth star, Jamelia, Citizen Khan creator and Birminghams own, actor, Adil Ray OBE, Ore Oduba, Ashley Rice, Claudia Jessie, Ross Kemp and Nick Pickard.

The Brummies 2016, (formerly Pride of Birmingham awards).

The Brummies logoIt produces a nice warm feeling when you know you’ve done a good job, but when others recognise it too, the reward is far greater.

This applies to The Brummies Awards. We were, again, invited to supply all of the chauffeured transportation for the 2016 event, our fleet of chauffeured cars and luxury minibuses ferrying very well known television personalities, international band members (and a comedian on the cusp of International recognition)…

The Brummies 2016 was organised by the Birmingham Mail in association with Virgin Trains, and has grown, over the last two years, to become on of THE big awards night out in the city.

Joe Lycett | Stand up comedian and author of Parsnips, Buttered!Famous faces included the exceptional stand-up comedian Joe Lycett, who recently appeared on the Jonathan Ross show with Phil Collins. Joe’s a regular on mainstream television panel shows, his cutting on-liners slotting nicely into 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown and Would I Lie to You. Joe has released his first book titled, “Parsnips, Buttered!”  – it’s lighthearted, funny and unusually “informative”…

Ruby Turner sang with the Birmingham Town Hall Gospel Choir, Jon Bentley from “The Gadget Show” appeared, Panos Pavlakis, World Silver medallist Robert Oliver and many, many more well known and inspirational “Brummies”.

A full list of the heroic awards winners can be found here:

Ben Kay | Airport transfer

ben_kayPeople will begin to talk – we chauffeured Ben Kay again this weekend, this time for the Italy versus Scotland rugby match, held at  The Stadio Olimpico.

stadio_olimpicoAn impressive venue, The Stadio Olimpico was originally built to serve as the centrepiece of the Foro Italia sports complex, a project initiated by the regime of Mussolini. Construction began in 1928 and a first tier had been finished in 1932. Works on the second tier were halted though due to the outbreak of the Second World War and were only resumed in December 1950.

Stadio Olimpico officially opened on the 17th of May 1953 with a match between the national teams of Italy and Hungary. Capacity amounted to 100,000 at that time, which constituted mainly of terraces.

Stadio Olimpico served as the centrepiece stadium for the 1960 Olympics, and for this all terraces got converted into seats, resulting in a capacity of 53,000 seats. During the Games, the stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics competitions.

Good Charlotte | Benji Madden

good_charlotteAlso on Saturday, we chauffeured Benji, the guitarist for the excellent band Good Charlotte (and his wife) to the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, for a round of their UK tour.

Benji Madden is a talented vocalist, songwriter and producer. (Benji and his brother Joel manage Jessie J). He’s also married to the delightful and undeniably gorgeous Cameron Diaz.

Paul, our director was unusually speechless, (although he did mention how lovely and down to earth she was)…
